•Denmark, Western Australia
(on the Denmark River & Wilson Inlet)

•Walpole, Western Australia
(ancient forests of the Walpole Wilderness Area)

Albany
The breathtaking beauty of Albany's rugged coastline creates a fitting backdrop to a dramatic whaling, convict and settler history and a sensational south coast adventure. The Albany Highway gets you there in just five hours from Perth, while a direct flight from Perth airport will whisk you there in one hour and 15 minutes. Or, why not take your time and enjoy one of the world's greatest journeys, walking part or all of the mighty Bibbulmun Track that runs from Perth to Albany. This charming city marks the spot where the first European settlers set foot in Western Australia, and much of their legacy remains today with around 50 colonial buildings standing proudly as museums, galleries and restaurants.

From convict prisons, whaling ships and taverns to quaint cottages and grand National Trust residences, you can take in almost two centuries of history on a 30-minute self-guided walk, following the Amity Trail. The building with the greatest tale to tell is Whale World - the only museum of its kind in the world to be housed in a formerly fully-operational whaling station. The industry met its end in 1978, creating a safe port of call for migrating humpback, southern right and blue whales. Spot them from the shore or hop aboard a whale watching cruise for a magical encounter. One of the most scenic coastal landscapes for whale spotting or just taking in the fresh sea air is Torndirrup National Park. Here, the Southern Ocean has sculpted the granite coastline into striking formations known as The Gap and Natural Bridge. For sensational views over King George Sound, head for the Middleton Beach boardwalk trail. Or take a drive up to Albany Wind Farm and feel dwarfed by the towering turbines as you take in sweeping ocean views.

As well as world-class hiking, you'll also find some top-notch spots for fishing, sailing and diving. Include a weekend in your itinerary and you can experience a great local icon, the Albany Farmers' Markets. No imports here, just fresh and fabulous, locally-grown flavours. You might even get to meet the farmers for a chat.

Greens Pool
Greens Pool is a popular swimming destination. Greens Pool from the lookout during summer at William Bay National ParkThe almost wave-less waters of Greens Pool Fifteen kilometers to the west of Denmark is a beautiful, magical beach called Greens Pool in William Bay National Park. Almost completely sheltered from the waves of the Great Southern Ocean by the rounded rock boulders typical to this area, Greens Pool is paradise. Walking into the water, you will notice the long gradual slope, allowing children of all ages to experience the ocean in an safe and comfortable environment. The expansively white beach stretches west, endlessly out of sight, far past the rock guardians of the rock pool across Williams Bay and Mazzoletti Beach. Greens Pool is one of the most popular destinations in Denmark, WA.

Greens Pool is a popular snorkelling beach with many fish to be seen amongst the rocks and coral on the inner side of the rock breaks.

The eastern end of William Bay National Park which includes Greens Pool and Elephant Rock is accessible from the South Coast Highway approximately 14 kilometres west of Denmark. The western end of the park is accessible further down the South Coast Highway via Parry Road and on to Parry Beach.

What makes Greens pool so divine? Green’s Pool is surrounded by gradually sloping rock formations cut with small crevasses and pools – perfect for children young and old. The calm waters of Greens Pool are very clearly seen in this video of Elephant Rocks and Greens Pool from Tower Hill.
