Fairfield Leopold Downs Road’s name is derived from the two Cattle Stations it passes through to reach the Gibb River road at its western end.

Geikie Gorge National Park
Geikie Gorge National Park is a national park in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Geikie Gorge National Park it is easily accessible to reach Geikie Gorge National Park in the Kimberley. It's only 20 klm outside of Fitzroy Crossing, on the bitumen and even to get to the gorge. (280 klm drive from Derby and 390 klm from Broome.)

Geikie Gorge National Park is open for day visits from 6.30am to 6.30pm from April to November.

The park is closed during the wet season (December to March) when the Fitzroy River floods.

There are no camping areas in the national park but there are caravan parks, campgrounds and other accomodation in the nearby town of Fitzroy Crossing.

The town also has a range of facilities and supplies.

Visitors to the park can experience a 350-million-year-old limestone reef system, Aboriginal heritage, bird life, fruit bats, the abundant freshwater crocodiles and experience some great fishing. During the dry season (April to November), private boats and canoes may access the gorge before 7.00am, between 12.00pm and 1.00pm and after 4.00pm. You must notify rangers before launching your boat. Facilities include toilets, water, an information shelter, tour boats and universal access. Due to the wet season floods, these facilities are only available from April to November.

While in town, it's worth the short drive to the original town site and causeway crossing to visit the legendary Crossing Inn or hook a barramundi from the Fitzroy River. Motel-style and caravan park accommodation is available. Visit between May and October, and enjoy warm, dry days and cool evenings. From December to March, you're likely to see storms transform the surrounding landscape into a sea of green.

Bats and crocodiles
Geike Gorge boat tours guided by the rangers from April to October give an insight into the gorge’s wildlife and geology. You might see acrobatic crocodiles snapping at stray flying-foxes, and birds such as sea eagles and rare purple-crowned fairy-wrens Departure times are 8.00am, 9.30am, 11.00am and 3.00pm.

Tickets are available at the gorge 20 minutes prior to the cruise.
Individuals don’t need to book, but tour groups must book well in advance on (08) 9195 5500 or fax (08) 9193 5027

Indigenous tours
Cultural boat tours are guided by Bunuba Aboriginal people, whose connection to this land goes back to the Dreamtime. Tours depart at various times. For further information please contact the operators direct on 0417 907 609. Tickets must be booked on (08) 9191 5355.

Other activities
From April to November, private boats and canoes may access the gorge before 7.00am or after 4.30pm. You must notify rangers before launching your boat. There are some interesting walks in the park. Getting to Tunnel Creek National Park

Tunnel Creek National Park is a day use area only, with facilities limited to toilets and an information shelter. Tunnel Creek National Park covers just 91 hectares. It is 112 kilometres from Fitzroy Crossing, 180 kilometres from Derby, 36 kilometres south-east of Windjana Gorge.
